The Jewels of the Deccan tour lets you visit the famous UNESCO World Heritage Sites, architectural marvels, historical sites and a lot of enjoyment. The tour takes you to Bijapur, where you visit several monuments belonging to the Deccan Sultanate like the Jumma Masjid (one of the oldest mosques in India) and Malik-e-Maidan (largest medieval cannon in the world). At Aihole, you visit the famous 70 rock cut temples whose style varies from each other, while at Badami, you get to admire the rock-cut caves. The tour then takes you to Hampi, where you get to visit the Virupaksha Temple, Vittala Temple and other attractions. In Hyderabad, you can visit the famous Charminar and its famous biryani. Day 1 | Arrive Mumbai

Arrive at Mumbai International Airport and our representative will assist you in getting transferred to your pre booked hotel. Check in, and relax for the day. Stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 2 | Mumbai

After breakfast, transfer for boat ride to Elephanta Island, explore the magnificent caves. The outer caves were used as a place of Hindu worship until Portuguese rule was established. The caves further in are smaller and are Buddhist caves. The main cave, otherwise known as the Shiva Cave, contains numerous carvings throughout depicting various aspects of Lord Shiva including his wedding, his slaying of Andhaka and more. There is also a sculpture of the Trimurti in the main cave that is approximately 20 feet tall. Other wings of the caves have shrines dedicated to Shiva’s sons, Kartikeya and Ganesh. After touring the caves, return and go for the city tour of the Gateway of India a triumphal arch to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary, complete with four turrets and intricate latticework carved into the yellow basalt stone. Followed by Prince of Wales Museum a magnificent, but somewhat strange structure, built in a confluence of Gothic and Moorish styles, and crowned by a sparkling white dome. And Marine Drive also known as Queens Necklace. Return and stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 3 | Mumbai – Aurangabad (By Air)

After breakfast check out and get driven to Aurangabad. Aurangabad is named after the great Mughal Ruler Aurangzeb. Many sites such as Bibi-ka-Makbara and city’s 52 gates represent Mughal charm.
Reach Aurangabad and our driver will assist you in getting transferred to the hotel. Overnight in Aurangabad.

 

Day 4 | Aurangabad

Today we head to explore the popular Ellora Caves. The Ellora Caves is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and comprises of 34 rock-cut shrines dating back to the period between 4th and 5th century AD. As a whole there are 17 Hindu shrines, 12 caves dedicated to Buddhism and 5 Jain shrines. One of its prime attractions is Kailash Temple, which is believed to be representing Mount Kailash, the Adobe of Lord Shiva.

After lunch head to visit the Ajanta Caves, a popular tourist attraction of India and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, consisting of 30 rock-hewn Buddhist caves. These caves are not merely acclaimed for its spiritual significance but also for the intricacy of the carvings, precision of sculptures, beauty of paintings that together reflect the blend of Buddhist and Hindu art.

Overnight in Aurangabad.

Day 5 | Aurangabad – Hyderabad

After breakfast, check out and get driven to Aurangabad airport to board the flight to Hyderabad. The City of Nizams, Hyderabad is scheduled to be visited today. The city traded pearls and diamonds in the erstwhile era and is still known as City of Pearls. Qutb Shahi Dynasty, Mughals or British, Hyderabad’s history and heritage define it mainly. There are many legends associated with the christening of the city; one such legend says that the city is named after the wife of Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah, who was a Hindu and converted into Islam and was named Hyder Mahal.

Reach Hyderabad and our representative will assist you in getting transferred to your pre booked hotel. Check in, and relax for the day. Stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 6 | Hyderabad

Today isit Golconda after scrumptious breakfast in the hotel. The region is famed for the mines that have produced some of the most popular gems of the world- including Hope Diamond, Nassak Diamond and even Koh-i-noor Diamond. The Golconda Fort is another of its major attractions, which alone covers an area of 11 km.

If not Golconda, you can choose to go for a shopping tour in the local markets of Hyderabad. Some of the best buys here include- pearl, ittar (oil-based fragrances) and lac bangles.

For lunch savor Hyderabad’s world-famous biriyani. Afterwards, proceed to Falaknuma Palace, which literally means Like the Sky and it has been named so owing to its sky-soaring heights. The tour to this palace is followed by a relaxing high-tea session.

A visit to Hyderabad is considered incomplete without exploring the area of Charminar, which is bustling and lively. Charminar is saved as the last attraction of the day. The Monument and Mosque was built by Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah in 1591 CE. Today, this stands as an icon of Hyderabad and is one of the most popular monuments of India. It is surrounded with bustling Laad Bazaar, with its specialty being bangles and ornaments. If you are looking for Hyderabad’s popular Deccan Pearls head to Pather Gatti.

Overnight in Hyderabad

Day 7 | Hyderabad – Gulbarga (240 kms/5 hrs)

After breakfast, check out of the hotel and get driven to Gulbarga via Bidar. On the way, halt in Bidar to visit the 15th century Bidar Fort and the Bahmani tombs. On reaching Gulbarga, check into the hotel. Stay overnight in Gulbarga.

Day 8 | Gulbarga – Bijapur (190 kms/4 hrs)

Morning leave for Bijapur, which served as the capital of Sultans of Deccan in the erstwhile era. Though in the 10th or 11th century, Bijapur was established by the Kalyani Chalukyas, but it came under the rule of different sultanates as the time changed. Between the period of 16th and 17th century, Adil Shahi Dynasty made Bijapur his capital too. Owing to secular nature of the ruler, many poets, scholars, poets, dancers, musicians, Sufi saints and other artists came to Bijapur, which was also known as ‘Palmyra of the Deccan’.
On reaching Bijapur, proceed for sightseeing. The first attraction is Gol Gumbaz (round dome), the mausoleum of Adil Shah (Sultan of Bijapur). This is an architectural marvel because of its two aspects; One- it is the second largest tomb in the world and Two, the circular gallery is where even the tiniest whispers echo and get magnified.

Next, visit the Jumma Masjid, followed by Malik-e-Maidan. Jumma Masjid is one of the oldest mosques of India and Malik-e-Maidan is the largest medieval cannon in the world. As per the legends go, if someone touches the gun and asks for a wish to be fulfilled, it gets granted. Then, head to Mehtar Mahal, which is an ornate gateway dating back to 17th century. Next in line is Ibrahim Rouza, one of the most beautiful Islamic monuments of the country. People believe that its 24-meter-high minaret inspired the creation of Taj Mahal, the Seventh Wonder of the World.

Overnight in Bijapur.

Day 9 | Bijapur – Aihole – Badami (130 kms/3 hrs)

In the morning after breakfast, we will drive down to Badami. En-route we will visit Aihole famous as the “cradle of Indian architecture”, Aihole has over 100 temples scattered around the village.
The Chalukyan rulers commissioned the construction of more than 70 rock-cut temples. These temples have their own style and differ entirely from each other, even with any other temples of the country. This is perhaps the reason why Aihole is often called the Cradle of Indian Architecture.
Proceed to the historic city of Badami, which features rock-cut caves and sculptured temples.
Check in the hotel and stay overnight.

Day 10 | Badami

Today we take a tour of Badami. We will be visiting several temples dating from the Chalukyas’ period in Badami. First set of temples is a group of four on a hill adjacent to the Bhutanatha Tank, dating back to the 5th century. In the adjacent wall there is a carving of the cosmic dance of Shiva Natarajan depicted with eighteen arms. The second temple bears images of Vishnu in his Varaha & Trivikrama incarnations. The third is a rock cut temple with inscriptions dating to 578 AD, belong to the period of Kiritivarma Chalukyas. There are carved images of the Narasimha & Trivikrama avataras of Vishnu.

Further up is a Jain rock cut temple dedicated to the Tirthankara Adinath with inscriptions dating back to the 12th century. The Mallikarjuna temple dating 11th century is on a star shaped plan.
Later, we visit Bhutanath Temple facing the Agastya Lake to catch the sunset. In the evening return and stay overnight in the hotel.

Day 11 | Badami – Pattadakal – Hampi (150 kms/3-4 hrs)

After breakfast, check out and visit Badami cave temples from the 6th and 7th century AD and the famous Malegitti Shivalaya temple. Thereafter, leave for Hampi via Pattadakal,which consists of temples from the northern Nagara and southern Dravida schools. Pattadakal is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with around 10 temples that portray a perfect blend of Indian architectural styles. After exploring the Papanatha Temple and the other ancient temples of Pattadakal, proceed towards Hampi. Reach Hampi and check in the hotel to relax for the day.

Day 12 | Hampi

Today we go on the tour of Hemakuta group of monuments, Sacred area and Hampi by the River. The following places will be covered Mustard seed Ganesha, Hemakuta Group of Monuments, Virupaksha temple bazaar walk, Achutaraya temple, River side walk and Coracle boat ride, Kings Balance and Vittala temple complex.

We continue our exploration of Hampi’s ruins with a tour of Royal City Area and Sunset at Malyavantha Hill for sunset. The following monuments will be covered Queens Bath, Steep tank, Great platform – Mahanavami debba, Hazararama temple, Queens enclosure – Lotus Mahal & Elephant stable, and Malyavantha Hill

The tour ends and the driver will receive you from the Hampi Bazaar and transport back to your hotel for the night.

Day 13 | Hampi – Chikmagalur (286 kms/5 hrs)

After breakfast, check out and get driven to Chikmagalur. Reach there after 5 hours drive and check in the hotel. Relax for the day and stay overnight.

Day 14 | Chikmagalur – Halebeid – Belur – Bangalore (250 kms/4-5 hrs)

After breakfast in the morning, check out and we will drive to Bangalore.

On the way explore the Hebbe falls, Lakshmi Narayan Temple, and Hoyasaleshwara Temple at Helebid, built by Kettuvallam, during 1121 AD, dedicated to Lord Siva, having two shrines connected by pillared walls & in each shrine is a Lingam, Hoyasaleshwara & Shanthaleshwara. We also visit the Chennakeshawa Temple at Belur, built in the year 1117 AD to celebrate Hoysala military victories & it took over a hundred years to complete. Stories from the Purans, Upanishads & other mythological sources have been executed in the most exquisite & authentic detail, tales from Ramayana & Mahabharata. After exploring these temples, proceed towards Bangalore and stay overnight in the booked hotel at Mangalore.

Day 15 | Depart Bangalore
